Twelfth in a series of comparative image charts.
I wanted to pursue similarities in species between Africa and India. The top row shows my best selections of Indian Elephants; the only one I'm unsure of is the last, who might be a Sumatran Tiger. The main feature is the thick nose, which as far as I can see has a minimal or no crook to it, or a minor indentation instead. My theory is that Elephants are related to Tigers, so there are only a few differences between the species in human faces. Among them I think is the cast/slant of the eyes (think predator vs herbivore), a crooked nose in Tigers, a less bulbous nose in Tigers, and a thicker lower jaw.
I was especially happy to find examples of I believe Asiatic Lions in the second row. The second guy is most emblematic in the common facial structure and hair style that belongs to Asiatic Lions. The somewhat flaring hairstyle, seen somewhat longer in actor Kunal Kapoor to the right, is the Asiatic version of the dreadlocks of African Lions, I believe.
I included the Sumatran Tigers as the nearest Tiger relatives to Elephants for comparison, and because I like Tigers. My uncle, seen both in his 20s and as a recent photograph, shows some classic Siberian Tiger features at both ages. I've finished with some Indian Elephant women, with an African Elephant example at the end. To me, the eyes of Elephants seem to be somewhat ringed, and that is distinctive to both the Indian and African Elephant women, as is the bulbous end of the nose.
