These large beetles have been showing up around our place. They are around the size of a thumb, or even a tad larger. Sometimes they make a 'hissing' or chirping noise when disturbed.

Definitely not a hissing cockroach. That IS a beetle of some sort. It's just about looking up all the different kinds and sorting through them to find it. But that is DEFINITELY not a cockroach. Hissing cockroaches are what's most commonly used in movies and I believe originate in Africa? Not sure without looking it up again, so don't take my word for that. Anyways, THIS is a hissing cockroach http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped.....ach.750pix.jpg
From what I found, it looks like a brown spruce longhorn beetle. Here ya go... http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english...../tetfuse.shtml
