That's alright, it happens. I'll be the first to admit Mittens's stripe pattern isn't constant, and I do occasionally make some really silly mistakes, so it wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility.

Oversimplifying somewhat, Blake, Sarah and Toni are basically subspecies of the same species, colloquially known in this universe as "mammals". There are two species of sentient, bipedal creatures in this world: those appearing similar to mammalian animals, and those appearing similar to avian or reptilian animals. (It's also worth noting that even the avian/reptilian "people" are technically mammals, giving birth to live offspring and nursing them, though their quadrupedal, insentient equivalents are/do not.)

Toni's no more closely related to Mittens than you are to a cow; they're both referred to, in-world, as "cat", but that's more or less in the same way as a human of African descent and a labrador retriever can be referred to as "black" in our world.
