Here is a wonderful recording on an Edison Gold Moulded Cylinder, number 9334. This song was recorded in 1906, over 100 years ago!
I recorded this off of my recently acquired 1908 Edison Home Phonograph, Model D. My Great Grandfather bought this phonograph new back in 1908, and it has been in my family ever since. My father gave it to me in non-working condition a few weeks ago. I completely overhauled the motor and put in a reproduction Model K reproducer. Now it plays like a champ!

The picture stood still, but the mileage cou8nter beneath suggested the needle tracking the grooves.
It seems that these old cylinder records are quite scratchy. The 33rp lp albums I have turned out to be scratch-filetered, making some playable if not understandable.
I don't have a cylinder phonograph, so all my cylinder recordings are via these 33rp albums or a website that plays transcrip[tions. I also have transcriptions of 19th century Berliner disks (VERY scratchy).
