In my long, strange, and morbid curiosity I have wondered just what the airspeed would be at the point of greatest constriction between a standard atmosphere and a hard vacuum. I seem to recall it calculated as being about mach one, with considerably slower speed to either side of the constriction, depending on the volume available in the area near it. Temperature, too -- could one expect high heating as the air compresses at constriction? Obviously temperture drops in the extreme after exit from constriction.
