Same here really with shoutmon considering he's scared/nervous by just shoutmons name.

The tiers are kinda borked in Xros Wars. ;p But Gumdramon is certainly adorable. I looked for Gumdramon on FA the other day (it must have been shortly before you uploaded this), and I found nothing. I was, like, "D: Furries, wut."

Yeah, I also notice that Gumdramon is afraid of Shoutmon somehow at end of first episode, maybe they have history between it or Gumdramon must have heard gossips that gives bad nature of Shoutmon, who knows... (if someone is good at japanese, they should know what Gumdramon's last words were before it ended.)

And its obviously that Gumdramon finds his partner annoying (and weird), so he hate him at first.

I think what he said was translated to "it's the digimon king-sama!"

so he most likely knows shoutmon is the digimon-king...my guess is he wants to beat shoutmon for the possition or something...and thats why he needed the human kid to help him digivolve.

Sorry that I had to hide last comment, when I close closely at episode...I realise things that give me an better understanding but not 100%:

1. The reason why Gumdramon wants to get stronger via digivolve is not revealed yet, but I do not think he is aiming Shoutmon for Digimon King role while exact or less that Shoutmon ruled Digital World for like 144 digimon years while that is one human year. Unless Gumdramon believe that Shoutmon was corrupted and feared as "Digimon King" throughout Digital World.

2. Gumdramon is certainly shocked to hear "Shoutmon" from Taiki's mouth. But if Shoutmon really want to restore peace to Digital World, Gumdramon should have an different opnion for Shoutmon but it seems not the case.

I wish I could think more of it, but I cannot think more of theories.

And by the way, its an good artwork you made.
