Actaully the Sherman's Lagoon joke had a Fish not watching where he was going and swam right into Sherman's mouth and then Tweeting about it.
But it's pretty much the same concept.

It's from the H.P. Lovecraft historical society actually based out of his hometown just outside of Boston. They did three different Cd's... two Christmas Cd's (a very Scary solstice and An even Scarier Solstice) and a parody of "A fiddler on the roof" titled "A Shoggoth on the Roof"
I actually teach a bit of Lovecraft in the second semester of my American lit classes... he was a brilliant writer if you can overlook some of his personal beliefs (kind of like most of the writers of the twenties to fifties really... Even poor Dr. Seuss fell victim to Racism sadly.)
Innsmouth is probably my third favorite story of his after "Rats in the Walls" and "Red Hook" And pretty much everything he has done can really be found online now.. since it's beyond the copyright term. I do love the Deep One's though... I even have a Deep One character in my Gallery.... Old Robert Gilliman.

Wow, that's pretty damn amazing. I'll be sure to check 'em all out, that's for sure.
At the moment I'm just sort of a 'junior Lovecraft fan', I haven't gotten the chance to read most of his works but I love the idea of an unknowable, cosmic horror- it's really no surprise that a lot of the things I'm fond of have been heavily influenced by Lovecraft. Partially to get a larger appreciation for those things and partially because I think I'd get a big kick out of his stories, I was motivated to check him out. I mean seriously, he's everywhere- Bethesda has a hard-on for him (he gets a shout-out in Elder Scrolls III and VI as WELL as Fallout 3) and Stephan King loved him, too- I ran into Lovecraft's name more then once in Danse Macabre.
Oh man, I'm actually really looking forward to reading "Rats in the Walls". That and "Shadow Over Innsmouth", those were the too I was most eager to read. I'm only on Part II of Innsmouth, and even though I know what's coming I'm still totally freaking out from the build-up.

Yeah King was rather fond of Lovecraft especially in his earlier works. He even wrote a short story series called Salem's Lot that he dedicated to Lovecraft and published in several "anthologies of Lovecraft themed fiction" over the years.
Yeah I know Bethsedia did a few shout outs to Lovecraft actually in both Fallout 3 and New Vegas, as well as the downloadable content from Point Lookout being almost completely developed from Lovecraft (the whole series of quests is themed behind his works actually even the scientist with the Brain in a jar is a huge shout out to Lovecraft's Mi-Go race and their penchant for capturing scientists in mason jars for later. )
I actually didn't see the stuff from Elder scrolls III... more so because I don't think i played much of it really. I did see a bunch of stuff in IV that could be called Lovecraftish.. .especially some of the Assassin quest line.

Absolutely, is you play through Morrowind again you can really see it everywhere, particularly with Dagoth-Ur's 6th house cult- the priests you meet later on seriously echo Cthulhu, not to mention their tendency to inflict madness and corrupt isolated villagers. There's also the fact that Dagoth-Ur's worshippers tend to inflict themselves with Corprus, which turn them into hideously deformed creatures.
In Oblivion, there's a whole /quest/ dedicated to it, even given a similar title: 'Shadow Over Hackdirt". You'll run into that quest after talking to an Argonian in Chorral. If you leave and come back after a few days, go to the shop her mother runs and talk to her to get the quest. Super creepy.
