Basil tends to do research a lot on computers, he's a bit of a nerdy scientist type, and was pulled into a rather obligatory adventure with two other trainers. One a foreigner, and the other a "necessary acquaintance" whom he'd known for a long time. That childhood "acquaintance" would be the girl, Melody. She's unpredictable, overly friendly, and a bit dense, a polar opposite to the serious and calculated Basil. Her personality is so baffling to him that he can't help but want to know more about her, since he's obsessed with psychology in both pokemon and humans.
But, after being dragged in an adventure, he was given ample time to really examine her confusing behavior. In time, Basil began to be baffled by even his own feelings, and found himself flustered whenever she got too close. This is one of the first moments he realized he felt nervous with her practically hovering over him, and she's completely clueless to it.
