I first heard of the idea not long ago from
mochamephooki. For some reason it clicked with me, and I had to make something to visualize it. This is still a work in progress, with lots of little weak spots here and there, but despite its flaws I think it's coming along well; I've got a variety of props made with ideas for a few more, plus a whole Blend file set up nice and neat for it. A little more rigging and this thing will be ready for animation. Next up will be attempting to render the crew...
This vessel features:
- Inflatable helium-based aliens from the planet Infloonia
- Regenerative polyplastic hull capable of self-repair in the event of a leak
- Energy reactor, providing power and a continual supply of helium from fusion
- Helium diffusion beam for mass inflation, on a planetary scale at full power
- Tackpedo launchers for exploding enemy ballooncraft
Thanks to Mocha for letting me develop this idea (even if I have gone in my own direction with it).
...yes, I know there are no stars. I still haven't worked out a decent way to make them. -_-u

This has got to be the most original and uniquely developed idea I have ever seen in a long time. The idea and premise itself is incredibly fun sounding, but your rendering and work really brings this to life in such a phenominal way. You did an excellent job creating a full castle appearance while still showing the key features of the bounce house aspect as well. Everything looks so colorful and bright, which is a key feature in bounce houses while also making all of your curves smooth and rounded. There isn't a single flat edge in any of your examples and that's great you managed to pull that off. Plus, you can visibly see the 'softness' of the bounce house effect in how certain parts of the castle seem to 'poke out' as if filled by air :D
I cannot help but wonder just how these aliens must look like considering their fortress. It definately leaves a fun possibility on how the Infloonians must be like. You do amazing beam effects; the brightness and the details are simply amazing to look at. Also nice idea with the Tackpedo and also making a simple tack look like an actual deadly weapon. The added features near the base of it like grating, side lights and the thruster, really shows your creative abilities and your talent to make something most would never bother enhancing.
Amazing work on this man. Can't wait to see more of this :)

*bows* Your praise is humbling. Much thanks.
As I said, credit for the idea itself goes to Mocha-- he was the one that posited it as part of a story he was working on. I simply manifested the idea in 3D.
The rounded corners and smoothness are actually just the result of not adding seams for the subsurf; normally, you'd place them wherever a texture edge would create a seam in mapping, but by skipping that step the structure takes on a more rounded appearance.
The beams and rockets are done with composite layers, a simple process of adding nodes and filters. They're actually very easy to make, and it would be simple to add more detail and effects.
I do hope Mocha likes it, when and if he sees it.

I'm glad to hear it meets with your approval :3 That makes it all worthwhile. I do have plans to add more to it-- maybe some bouncy starfighters? There's just so much you can do with this; I've got the whole history of space pulp to draw from, painted over with a kinky rubber veneer.
