In the most recent update to Minecraft a new sort of enemy was added, the Enderman.
These things are pretty damn interesting really. They're tall, completely black humanoids with glowing purple eyes that can pick up and move blocks. They can be anything from a minor annoyance (stealing decorative objects, making small holes in buildings) to a major danger (stealing blocks with torches on them allowing other monsters to spawn, stealing blocks with redstone circuits on them to break machinery).
The endermen themselves however pose little threat. They're neutral and won't attack you on their own, are not only harmed by fire but also by water (a rainstorm will kill endermen), and are relatively weak... except... if you look directly at one for more than five seconds.
When this occurs the enderman will begin to scream and stare straight at you. If you break eye contact they'll immediately rush towards you, teleporting if you're at a large distance, and do their very best to kill you.
As for what the bugger these things actually are... I've got a theory to that. I think they're possibly whats left of the former inhabitants of the world that Minecraft takes place in.
For those of you who don't play... you are the ONLY human (or humanoid if you use a custom furry avatar like I do :3 ) in this entire world. Its not explained why this is, but I would assume the endermen are some sort of ghost or specter with poltergeist-like tendancies. It would explain their behavior (stealing things, moving objects around, going berserk when noticed) and why they're moderately human-looking.
