"This is Wally. He was just surrendered to me today. Yesterday he got attacked by a dog. His owners took him to the vet and xrays showe no broken bones. Today this is what we have. He needs surgery to locate and repair internal bleeding. This will cost around 6 to 8 hundred bucks. Paypal info is hhferretrescue[at]yahoo.com I am on my way to the vet now. If you need to talk call me at 330-931-9531"
I got this from The Oregon Ferret Rescue in Portland Oregon off of Face Book and Seeing how I just lost a ferret, this broke my heart to see this and I donated. Below is the whole story of what happened. If you could help in any way possible that would be so great. I will even link you to their Face book so that you know that I am not making this up. http://www.facebook.com/OregonFerretShelter
"Ok friends.. First a huge THANK YOU! to everyone who has responded about little Wally Ferret who was attacked by a dog yesterday afternoon. I posted in a frenzy with little details of what happened to him as I was in a hurry and frazzled. So here goes the story og how Wally Ferret came to me. I received a phone from his very upset owner around 4pm today. She asked if I could help her sick ferret. I said I can help him if she surrenders him to me and then asked what the problems was. She then told me that the ferret got attacked by a dog yesterday afternoon (Friday) around 3pm. They rushed him to a dog/cat vet where x-rays were taken and it was found that he had no broken bones and everything seemed to be normal. That vet gave him a shot of shitty pain meds called Torbugesic and a shot of antibiotics called Coavenia that has never really been used in ferrets. They were then sent home. As time went on and the pain meds wore off it was noticed that little Wally was in a lot of pain and she could see the severe bruising under his fur getting darker and darker. His owner got on the phone to see if she could find him some help. As we all know it can be difficult to find a proper ferret vet and even harder to find one that will work a payment system. No one would help them. She then contacted me as I explained above. When I got off the phone with her the plan was she and her boyfriend were gonna bring him to me and I called and texted my vet and waited for a response. At 5pm she called to say the soonest she could bring him to me was 9am tomorrow (Sunday) as she couldn’t find a ride. I felt it it would be to late. Normally I don’t go pick up surrendered ferrets as I feel the owner should be responsible for bring hem into the rescue. I say its the last responsible thing a owner can do for their pet. But this time I felt different so I offered to come get him. Meanwhile I still waited for my vet to return my call on his day off. So I drove an hour to one of the worst parts of Cleveland and I met his owners and checked Wally out. He was in a lot of pain but it was hard to say why. This young couple in their very early 20s were a wreck over their Wally. They proceeded to tell me in more detail what happened. Wally liked to play on the enclosed back steps of the duplex they live in. The neighbors below recently adopted a Siberian Husky puppy and had their door open and the puppy was playing in and out of the hallway/stairs. The neighbors didn’t know Wally was playing and the owners didn’t know the puppy was out. All of a sudden they heard Wally screamed and the owners ran down the steps to find Wally in a corner hurt and very scared and the puppy just laying there looking. They rushed him to a nearby vet. Now here I am and these owners are so upset that they cant help their ferret cause they used all the money they had on the crappy vet. These kids scraped up 10 bucks in change and handed it to me in a baggie and said we are sorry but this is all we can give you for gas. I looked at them amazed and said thank you. Cause honestly not very many people would even offer that when they surrender. I wrapped Wally up in his blanket and handed him to the girl and said you carry him down and I grabbed his stuff. We placed him in the carrier and I drove home. I got Wally home and laid him down and started my own exam and my vet called. At this time I shaved Wallys belly to see how bad the bruises were and took pics. I spoke with Doc and he said bring him in and that he most likely has internal bleeding and would require surgery. So back in the car we went and drove the hour and 15 min ride there. Upon Doc’s examination we concluded at this time he is in critical condition and due to this condition Wally would not survive the surgery at this moment. At this time Wally is in ICU and we are trying to stabilize him. He is pain free as he now has some good pain meds and much more. The next 24 hours are critical. Prayers and positive energy is needed for this one year old ferret who just wanted to play on his stairs. Sadly money is always an issue in these emergency cases and at this time I have racked up a $200 bill so far for Wally and by 9pm tomorrow that bill will be around $350. That does not include any surgery so far. Thank you to all so far that has helped. I appreciate it so much. All donations will go to help this little boy in anyway possible."
