In the story, basically most of the 'mane 6' are ponynapped by villains (who just happen to be some of the "G1" MLP characters from the 80s) and Pinkie has to look for substitutes to fill the other element slots when she goes to fight them. Her choices are probably not the best choices.

This is actually what I thought was gonna happen in Season 2: Episode 2. With the main EoH gone, I thought Twilight was going to have to resort to some "old friends" to be temporary holders, and it would be like this:
