This is probably hard to make sense of, let me explain:
on the left, you have two small moths (only slightly longer than 5mm). Last night I began trying to identify them. the one upside down was pinned, had it's wings removed, gently washed (to remove scales), and drawn. and drawn. and drawn. and keyed out and keyed out. About an hour ago (yes I've been working on this ALL DAY), I finally got it down to two possible families, and they match the keys nearly perfectly for both, so I decided to give up until I'm better educated on moths or something.
On the right is the moth that I didn't touch all day, thinking that I'd have a perfect specimen to display, since the one used for ID has been completely destroyed. Chose the smallest, most delicate pin (they're called 'minutien' pins)to use. SNAPPED THE MOTHERFUCKER IN HALF ANYWAY. (EDIT: those peices that are blurry in the back are it's body and wings)
And this is why I haven't been active here lately.
EDIT: to better help anybody who wants to try their hand at this, here are the wing sketches I did: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6552900/

Alas, those hind wings have faaar too many veins.
Unfortunately a lot of moth families look very similar and are only really different-lookng when the scales come off - here, I've uploaded the wing drawings to show the difference: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6552900/
