My fur came to day *facepalm
See the big red piece and the 2 little (not neon) red pieces DO THEY LOOK THE SAME
NO!
I did everything to be sure this order came out right, I ordered a sample to be sure of the dyelot, and I ordered the yardage right away knowing dyelots can change
The sample matches the short fur perfectly and I was so happy because shaving the long fur is a bitch.
This fur was for my Zelda bird and for a customer's suit to be paired with orange...so I need a pure red for both
SO assuming the sample sent was of the current dyelot I bought 6 yards...
And, well, the fur came today and the dyelot is different from the sample...it may seem subtle but TURST ME in person the yardgae has distinct hint of purple, it is a cold vs warm tone, and I am not happy with it.
Hell I would rather use the eye-searing bright red than this maroon crap, I need PURE red not purplish red and had I gotten a proper sample and known it was maroon I would have gotten the bright red!
I contacted the supplier about it, I hope I can get this fixed.
Sorry about this useless friggen post bit I need to friggen vent because this cost me nearlly $200 and it's WRONG and I am PMSing
and I need to know.... Even from this crappy photo you can still tell the color is different right? Because I sent them this photo and the color difference does not show as much as it does in person.
Now....excuse me while I tear the house apart in search of chocolate....

I don't blame you, I would have too!
I've been nervous of similar happening to me when I get to order my fur for my suit. Looking for a cheaper longpile that matches the tail, as well as a shorter one to eliminate shaving. Different shades in the white seems harder to get wrong..but still has me nervous.
I hope the supplier contacts you and fixes this swiftly!

normally I love this place... and I know that their sample pieces not being of the current dyelot may seem like a minor mistake... but damnit, dyelots can differ A LOT. Like right now, their orange is not as neon as it used to be (which is a good thing) and their purple used to be more dark.
I know that dyelots changed and it cannot be helped BUT being sure to send samples of the current dyelot CAN BE HELPED.

DF told ya that?...great...
Maybe they will trade me for sparkle red, I would rather not be a glitter bird but a red sparkly bird is better than a maroon bird...I mean when I look at this maroon fur and think of the red bird from the upcoming Zelda game it just makes me frown...

Yea...That was the last time i ordered from DF...I try to stay away from them if possible now..
Not only did THEY send me the wrong fur, I had had it rush shipped overnight. They messed up my address and it got lost and took me a week to get it. So I wound up paying overnight for fur that took a week to get here ans was the wrong stuff for a suit that needed to be done a week from then...I lost it on the guy on the phone when they wouldn't even refund my shipping.

Yeah...dammit. :P I bet they just keep a bunch of sample swatches separate from the yardage and send those rather than cutting a swatch from the current bolts on hand. :P I never even thought of dye lots affecting fur. I hate dye lots. I love the "no dye lot" yarn they make now.
dyelots have tripped me up before, the body of my ryo-oki is different than her head and limbs because I ran out and had to order more, but that was my own fault as months seperated the purchases. 24 hours seperated the time from when got my sample to when I ordered the red so the problem is the sample was from an old roll of fur
It happens. Because they're made in small batches, the dyelots different from lot to lot.
you CANNOT buy fur piecemeal if you want the dyes to match perfectly. It just can't be done. It's not a problem with the manufacturer- its just that the way it's done is so inaccurate(Because its the industry standard).

The problem here is they sent me a sample that was not of the current dyelot >:[
I ordered the fur the day after my sample came which was like a day or 2 after I ordered the sample(DF is located in the same state as me) I highly doubt the dyelot changed that quick, the issue is they never upgraded their pile of samples >_0

What happened is they probably cut you a sample from the remainder of their roll, someone bought up the rest of it and then they had to make more. Or they just store them and you got a swatch from another roll than you got your yardage from.
And small batch = 60 yards at a time(Thats 3 rolls), if they make, say, 10 rolls and put them into storage, thats 3-4 different dyelots right there. :(
Likely what they do is have one 'sample' roll that sits around FOREVER because its only used for samples(This is what most warehouses do for fabric). So your sample might be 4 years old or more! Whereas your yardage is fresh.
Anyways eithe rof those happened. But the difference in colour is minute, I think they'll still look fine together.

The color contrast is far more noticeable in person 3:
Trust me I WISH they looked fine together >_0 I wish there was not that hint of pirple driving me batshit insane.
...Link's bird is a brilliant red that is like between the stoplight and dark red ...I really debated on which color but went with dark because it matched my short fur...
And, well, when I look at the fur I was sent and I think of Link's bird it just makes me frown...
Gawd I hope they have some of what whatever the samples were cut from in stock >_O I told them smaller pieces is fine, I mean if they sent me a 6 yard continuous piece off another roll because there was not enough of the other red I'll take whatever they have of the proper red.
Shit, I'd rather use red sparkle fur than this, mean it's not red, it's...it's maroon damnit!
...yeah...I'll trade them for sparkle fur if they cannot get me the same red as the sample...

Oh man, that's absolutely a blemish on their part and I have no idea why they wouldn't do anything about it. That's what those samples are for, to be absolutely sure of these things!
I recently got a Chibity plush made out of that exact DF Fur, the same hue and pile as the sample you got there (red, not stoplight red).
It almost seems like they gave you an order of dark red instead... '3';; Hope it all gets sorted out! Sorry to hear of another issue, especially when things are so busy. >:

that red up there...is for my bird and your suit T_T
Does the color bother you? If yes then what do you think of using sparkle red if I cannot get the right red of this fur? It is longer and has red tinsel in it. If they cannot get me the right red I am gonna use sparkle for the bird.
PS what I ordered was dark red, the proper color sample piece is the dark red sample I was sent...and that neon patch cut off on the right is a sample of the stoplight red and it is mind-numbingly bright under a flash >_O but if you like it I can use it on your suit :3

Yes, I was pretty sure that this was one in the same when I read your description. Its good that you decided to grab it early just in case!
As for order of preference...
1) The sample red you were supposed to get, but if that can't be obtained then-
2) The dark red mismatch you received is fine. Since the fur-spikes-hair on Chibity's head are a sort of a dark magenta, the colours may even work out together.
Sparkle red would be 3rd and Stoplight red would be 4th, but I'm not sure if I even want to list them... I don't really have an eye for the tinsel and the stoplight red is agreeably way too bright. But I absolutely have no qualms against the dark red you received. if nothing can be done about it, then its no problem, but the purer red sample that you received would be 100% dead on. Only if it happens, though. ^^
Overall though, I'm still always pleased with DF's fur length and sheen. Its absolutely what I had in mind for Chibs, she's one fluffeh dragon-kitty~ So no worries!

at least it is a different shade on 2 suits and not 2 shades on one D:
My Ryo-Oki suit has a different color fur on her body vs her head and limbs the body is plain brown, the rest has a hint of rust) because I ran out of fur and ordered more, and well months seperated the purchases and the dyelot had changed :/

we actually started making der with the 'darker' fur. and when the rest of the fur arrived. parts had to be remade so at least the suit would match with itself.
i know dye lots suck. it's fustrating when you get so far into a project and find out things arnt going to work out.
best of luck. look forward to seeing more of your awesome work.

Okay I was just like O.o its 4am am I missing something here. So yes. I was. XD
I've been looking for that sparkle fabric in a variety of colors so at the very least, thank you for posting your supplier.
CA tax is balls. >.< This is why I go to LA for bigger fur orders.... back ally fur deals... bring an empty suitcase + dufflebag >.>

This has happened to me several times. Finally, I gave in and just ordered a LOT of certain colors. The greys I got was always different, so I decided to order 15 yards of it at once. I am still going through the last of it, but at least everything matches. I am glad I am not the only one with this issue, I thought my eyesight was off!
Good Luck to you!
Good Luck to you!
Eww, I ran into this problem with Red Hart yarn I was using on a project years ago. This is exactly the problem dye lot was designed to fix, so that one batch could be matched up with only itself and the colors would match perfectly. What is the point of having a dye lot at all if there is no consistency in coloration within the lot? Sounds like a real pain, I hate it when professionals don't do their job right.
