He was offering pony version of your 'sona and I grabbed one. It's taking longer than I had though it would, so I'm posting this now before season 2 ends so it doesn't look like I just jumped on the bandwagon 7 seasons in. I haven't seen a single episode yet honestly, but I think the ponies are part of the furrydom and thusly I want to participate. I have no actual opinion on the show, never having seen it.
This WILL be moved to scraps after I receive the color version.

Simple, I haven't successfully gotten an icon at the time it was becoming popular with the community yet, this was supposed to be an attempt at it, but is already over 6 months in waiting, so another unsuccessful attempt. Now I have to wait for whatever comes along next and find an artist who will actually make the icon when I buy it....
my opinion: go watch the show

there are just so many funny references and moments, its hard not to love it. from Doctor Who to the Looney Tunes, i think pretty much everything ends up being refereced in a very subtle but still humorous way. there's even a very funny reference to Pokemon in the show. just do a little browsing on youtube and you see what i mean ^^

that's the thing: the references are not done weak. i said before subtlety is an important of this and i mean it. it is very subtle and, as a matter of fact, you wouldn't notice 80% of all the references put in the show unless you happen to know them. here's what i mean:
i mentioned Doctor Who earlier. well, there is, or rather was, a nameless pony with blue eyes, shaggy/spikey hair and an hourglass for a cutie mark. the fans quickly called him "Doctor Whooves", later adopted by the official side, because the pony had a striking resemblance to David Tennant who played the Tenth Doctor, voted by the fans as one of the best Doctors ever. however unless you happened to know or be a fan of Doctor Who and David Tennant, you wouldn't notice that.
another good example... every once in a while you see some old fashioned cartoon comedy like a character falling off a cliff in a certain, very specific way. if you would have happened to grow up with the Looney Tunes (like i did :-P) you would immediately be reminded of so many of the classic cartoons you know and love. there was even a scene with Pinkie Pie chasing after Rainbow Dash the very same way that Pepe Le Pew likes to chase after poor Penelope Pussycat.
another fine example: one episode has one of the characters dress up like a super hero. complete costume and even a logo. now if you used to Batman: The Animated Series, you will notice a very striking resemblance between the logo of the heroine and... well, the Batman: TAS logo :-P while the superhero costume itself comes in dark purple colours with a fedora hat which has a striking resemblance to Darkwing Duck's character.
and stuff like that happens through the entire series... sometimes its even something veeery minor and almost unnoticeable thing like a soundeffect from a well known movie or TV series or genre or something like that.
so... yeah... the series is pretty much a paradise for nerds and nostalgia
but i suppose in the end haters gonna hate
