Can't say I have. After around SNES we grew up too poor for most game systems, I semi-missed two/three generations of consoles until I finally bought my own xbox 2 years ago. I had a PS at one point, but it was borrowed, but I got to try Breath of Fire for it, which became another instant classic for me.
I think it's because every time they remake the game, they really go for the "graphical" appeal, and try unique game design. When what it is that made the game what it was, was the charmingly simple sprites and none-gimmick gameplay. Drive tank, shoot bad guys, kill bosses, use powerups to access new areas. That was NES at it's finest, if you ask me.
