Appealing apples (and pears) in a sweet sexy syrup from the kitchens of

Well, I guess theres FINALLY a use for the "Apple" in the Species category on FA... :P
This is a very simple dessert, but it takes quite a bit of time to make!
Ingredients:
*optional
4 Granny Smith Apples (I used 2 Bosc pears and 2 Macintoshes)
1 large lemon, halved
4 cups water
2 cups sugar
1 nip of Cointreau*
To make:
1.) Fill a bowl with ice water and squeeze the lemon in. Then toss the squeezed lemon halves in the bowl.
2.) Peel and core the apples and pears, and immediately drop into the bowl of iced lemon water- the lemon is the acid which will prevent your pears and apples from turning in the open air!
3.) Get a large saucepan/pot (or at least something that can hold all of the apples and pears- I threw in the lemon as well) , then pour in the sugar and water. Bring to a boil, stir the sugar and water, then carefully drop the apples and pears into the pot.
4.) Then bring to a slow boil- but, the pears and apples themselves should only cook in there for 3 to 5 minutes, at most! Any more, it will turn into applesauce XD You can use a slotted spoon to take out the apples and pears, and then fish out the lemons and toss them away.
5.) Then pour in that nip of Cointreau (I also used a bit of it in another recipe which I'll come to in a moment)- then let that water and sugar boil down to a syrup, which will take a good hour, hour and 1/2- and make SURE you keep an eye on it as well, burnt syrup is a BITCH to clean off from your stovetop >_< ... You can let it simmer to a lower medium heat / low boil.
Once its syrup, immediately turn off the stove (dont want burnt sugar XD)
Then you can serve, with the syrup, and maybe a bit of creme fraiche, or vanilla ice cream, or as is :)
BUT- I actually have these in the freezer saved for a future recipe...so stay tuned for that!
Enjoy :)
