I know, right? In the depths of Pinkie's supposed psychosis, what does she do? Basically sulk in her room and play with rocks and turnips.
I attribute the creepy alternate interpretation to the fact that bronydom emerged on what I call the mean streets of 4chan, and some bronies, despite being touched by the Magic of Friendship or whatever, must still have their Evil, even if they've got to inject it themselves.

I guess in the same vein on the topic of her name, as fans we can't know how she really associates herself (Ex, "Teeny-weeny-twinkie-pinkie" in one ep), but the name was also a direct comparison between who she WAS and who she BECAME. Having the full name made it easier for folks to distinguish which of the sides was involved, though it may not be accurate.
*Overthinking this way too hard*
Oh right, sorry for the delay, I'd been asleep something like 8 of the last many hours.
*sprints back to a channel for pre-season-2-craziness*

*remembers other comments here*... *brainfarts*... DOH! The last thing springing to mind, I wasn't aiming to self-insert evil or any of that other jazz; ex, I'd mentioned "We'll have to listen -very- carefully to the background soundtrack". If it was anything coming from the fanbase, fanfics nor 2D pictures have "background music", and the show DID, and was infact wildly different.

I'll do my best to leave the topic here though, I don't wanna grind my opinion into yours, I just didn't wanna leave the totally wrong impression. *fails again*... heh

Yes, but I hate that episode because it shows my favorite character being more or less ruined for laughs, and it gave the creepy side of the pony fandom more ammo and more inspiration to draw evil shit like "Pinkamena Diane Pie" suffocating Fluttershy to death with a bag or killing her other friends in evil nasty ways. It just turns me the hell off.
Ah, yea, all that, it ended up being a way for trolls and odd fans to edge their way in with all that. There'll always be an extreme to things in fandoms and life though... the old quote is "For a rose a thorn is watered", but my lame and more relevant adaptation is "To appreciate a rose, we must forgive or forget that it has thorns".
If it's any consolation, storytelling tends to benefit when the hero or protagonist has a tragic flaw, and that was actually a direct intent with the "mane 6". Rainbow Dash is courageous but crumples under pressure, Twilight Sparkle has wits and talent but can be bookish to a fault, Applejack puts "oomph" into her activities but is headstrong to a fault, Rarity is "the perfect lady" but lets that lapse ("Afraid to get dirty?! URBRBRBRBBR"), Fluttershy is the picture of kindness EXCEPT when she wants something and can't get it, and Pinkie Pie, happy-go-lucky pony, isn't happy ALL the time. The silver-lining there is that Pinkie's "tragic fault" makes her a bit more real; nobody's happy ALL the time. Even SUPERMAN has his kryptonite, and his crazy personality in comics and tv; if he were invincible and perfect in EVERY scenario, it'd be hard to tell a story besides "Superman had a 1-sided victory, AGAIN" or "Superman made exactly the right choice, AGAIN", heh. If it were not for Pinkie Pie's tragic fault, her lines would continually be "Pinkie Pie says something random, other chars move on" like in Swarm of the Century.
Oh right. The deal with tragic faults being intentional, while it's something that might've been suspected by fans, it's been confirmed by Lauren Faust that they've had "good traits" and "bad traits" from the get-go, not just having their characters ruined for a joke, not just a 1-sided personality to every situation. If anything, it might be something MORE you can embrace about the character/s, rather than something with the temptation to push aside. If ye've not seen it, check out question #16 of this interview (Or the interview itself, it's pretty great):

I just realized, it would be EXTREMELY difficult to tell the mane six apart if they were all shaved. You'd have to rely on nothing but their subtle facial expressions.
The fact that you can make Pinkie still look like Pinkie despite having all her fur shaved shows how well you know the models of this show. They need to hire you as an animator and concept writer ASAP!

It's from one of the generations that shall not be named, and I only know this from viewing a video discussing the history, but, at least back then pony hair grew back almost instantly
One of the villains shaved their heads so they could make magical clothing and they basically all grew it back right then.
Actually XD I found it. Right at the beginning so you don't have to suffer.
