Have you experimented with the filters "motion blur", or "radial blur->zoom"? might make the Special effects more fun for you if you get the hang of some techs involving some trickery like that.
Just keep at it, and keep researching, and you'll eventually accumulate a huge list of labor saving & art augmenting shortcuts.
