Making his way through town, Watch noticed a lot of construction happening around town. Big construction for that matter, for buildings that seemed to be more than just a single story. A lot of these construction sites were across from buildings that were either homes or small businesses. The one large building that seemed to be complete, had barred fences around it, and looked like it had been there for years. Originally, Watch shrugged this off and walked to the nearby cafe.
Walking through a parking lot, he spotted a familiar red sports car. He stopped in his tracks and looked at the windows of this place. It wasn’t hard to spot the rowdy owners acting ridiculous inside. The wolf rolled his eyes at that and turned right, he’d walk for another place than put up with adult children. Instead, there was a bar-styled diner that Watch had walked into. He took a stool and sat at the counter.
At the counter was a white rabbit with a black patch over one eye, “You’re a bit early to happy hour.” he said as he walked over, “But I won’t complain. What may I get for you?”
“Just a burger and fries.” Watch said, he looked up at the menu board, “How about that Cowboy burger.” Then he felt the stickiness drying on the back of his head, “Maybe a glass of water too.”
“Sure.” The rabbit walked away and called to the back, “Crying Johnny with ten gallons.” Then he came back over with a glass of water, “Here’s something to start.”
“Make it two.” Watch said, dipping his fingers in the glass and wiping out the mess he was splashed with.
“Is something else going on here?”
“Just wanting a bite before I hit the road again,” Watch said, “I decided to stop here because there’s a bunch of idiots at that cafe across the street.”
“Those college guys are over at Jenny’s?” The rabbit sighed, “Oh the poor girl.”
“I don’t think it was called that, but I think I’m catching on.” Watch said, “I bet they aren’t at her cafe for just pancakes. She could just ban them.”
“We wish.” The bartender said, “At least two of those guys have parents buying up property around here. Some sort of forced urbanization, and trying to make it a big city.”
“They’re turning this college town into a big city?” Watch tilted his head, “Doesn’t that sound a little big for anyone’s britches?”
“It’s not like we can stop him.” The bartender said, “Andy works back in my kitchen because he tried to push them out of his gym. One of their dads sued him with charges I didn’t even know about, then bought the place out from under him.” He stepped away for a moment, then came back with a basket of fries with a hamburger.
“So those brats do whatever they want, because of their rich parents.” Watch said, and grabbed a ketchup bottle, “No wonder they are out of control.” The sudden clanging of the door bell was accompanied by familiar laughter and cheers, it made Watch blast red sauce all over his fries. He tried to keep his head down and grumbled.
