One of the original races of my books, the Jox, carry particularly big.
As some of you may remember, I did a piece last year showing the Jox courting ritual involving the female swinging a sword to determine her potential husband's ability to focus.
Jox are one of the races that would totally count as pregfurs themselves, as they prefer larger (safe) sizes to pregnancies.
Now, on Earth, we are accustomed to three types of pregnancy in mammals: placental, marsupial, and monotreme. Longtime followers may recall that I've mentioned regenerative multi-womb, and one I haven't talked about as much is the adipose-bladder type (apologies to actual biology experts out there if my use of "adipose" is inaccurate for what I'm about to describe):
Certain races don't build up fat across the body the same way most mammals do; instead, they have a sort of "fat" storage bladder (not to be confused with the standard urinary bladder, as both are different organs entirely). In this "fat" storage bladder, excess fat is accumulated in a semi-liquid form. For females, it essentially operates as a womb. The unborn offspring attaches to the main mass of the accumulated fat, and feeds off the contained nutrients (during pregnancies, the mother's body will channel additional nutrients into the "fat" storage bladder), not unlike a yolk in eggs.
Jox are a race with such a pregnancy. Unlike with a urinary bladder, this "fat" storage bladder has no muscles to contract, and therefore doesn't experience strain or weakening. However, for races with this type of pregnancy, a sort of "plug" develops, that will loosen as the child nears full term. The umbilical cord and amniotic sac are connected to this "plug". The husband is to assist his mate in pulling out the child when due.
Jox are equipped with a set of fangs that inject numbing and paralytic substances into anyone they bite, should they be attacked. However, Jox prefer not to rely on this as a primary defense mechanism, as it has limitations. Instead, they have developed their own forms of martial arts that function particularly well with their (normally) flexible forms.
Their fur color tends towards a ruddy brown, extra markings are yet undetermined. Their culture and society tends to focus on fitness and agility, in hopes of keeping their race strong. They also like to focus on mental stamina and emotional discipline. Unlike the Vulcans of Star Trek, they do not repress their emotions, but prefer to allow emotions to run their proper course without negatively affecting behaviors.
Jox are internally social creatures; however, they don't specifically make it a point to keep to themselves, as a few lone individuals or families may opt to join adventuring parties of other races to contribute their combat abilities. But Jox tend to stick with others of their kind, as it is easier to maintain cultural habits of what they consider a healthy lifestyle. They do not reject or fear technology, but adopt its use based on how it may affect their values. They only avoid things that prove detrimental to their cultural heritage.
