So, for context, I've been playing Tears of the Kingdom modded to play as Wolf Link. It's been great.

My headcanon is that Link was turned into a wolf boy by Ganon or incidentally by some cursed magic, and the rest of the game proceeds as normal, with him adapting to different senses and such as he goes. Zelda does her time travel shenanigans, turns into the light dragon, and the finale plays out as Link saves the day. The light dragon is turned back into Zelda, but, oh no! Not all the way back! And now the two of them are are magical critter people.

Surely this isn't totally cool and surely it won't end up being really delightful for both of them in the long run.
