It's good to be healthy, especially if your a dragon. You've got all those treasure hunters coming after your hoard and it takes a lot of energy to fight them off. Apples are just the thing for restoring your energy after a day of battling adventurers. Given this dragon's expression, however, I think he would rather be holding a nice thick steak...
