Thanks your listening :3 Now go ahead and have some party with them!
Today I saw a majestic creature flying above the woods towards the Mountain, I couldn't describe how huge that bird must have been. But by the mooing cow in it's Talon's it must be one that searches for others to compare. I will follow the track of the Bird, to find out if there exist more of them....
<... quite a few pages are unreadable of the Manuscript, but they seem to describe the long search through the Woods, swamps and Mountains... describing a few encounters with Naga and wolfs....>
From behind a rock I'm observing these Majestic creatures day by day. From their appearance they seem well fed, not thin but also not fat. The male is held in very dark brown feathers, kind of like copper, the Tips of his feathers on the bottom of the last row of feathers on his wings and his body, have yellow and red blurry lines along, seeming to look like upcoming flames. All in all his appearance is very intimidating to me.
While the Female are held in a eagle like brown feathery appearance, they are a little smaller then the Male round about 1 Head size (a head their size). While for us Humans they seem gigantic, the male is easily 2 and a half time the size of a full grown human being fitting 4,3-5 meters easily up to the head. His wingspan being so massive that a it could darken the sun when he fly above me.
<.... a few pages are missing between again, those which are left describe the basic camp the Birdwatcher build himself, how he came day for day back to observe them. And describes how he feels every time being watched by the male that observes every of his steps when he's around....>
Any time I walk up to their place a cold chill runs down my spine, by the thought of the Alpha male looking at me. Even though he isn't moving his head towards me, I do feel observed by him on every step as long I'm in range of his view. But to see how they care and play with their child’s warms my heart more, then this chill along my spine could scare me ever away.
One time after they went out for hunting again, I followed their females to study their hunting habits. The young birds seem not to hunt alone on their early hunting trips. But being guided together with one of the females that watches over a little group of the young birds.
The elder one seem to have a hunting preferences on bigger food, like Naga's, Deer's and Wolfs of kind with preferences to scaled creatures. While the young are hunting something more of their own size like snakes, bunny’s and foxes. After some observing of their hunting trips, a tendency to snakes and deer was noticeable. They lure in the Branches of the big Mammoth tree's or charge down from the sky through the crown of the tree's. Their eyes must be as sharp as their talons with their abilities to identify prey from such heights.
They dash down through the crown of the tree's like eagle into the water to catch their fish. With their mighty talons wrapped around their prey, they seem either to feast on their catch when caught or taking them back to their tribe to share the catch.
The first times I followed them on their hunting, was full of adrenalin for me since I wasn't sure if or if not I would fall into their hunting habit. But seemingly they was rather not interested in me but more on the fact that I was around. The females action seemed nervous when I was around and her eyes turned ever so often towards me at first, but decreasing after they got more used to my appearance.
There even appeared one time a young Dragon that was luring for the young while the Female wasn't watching. Yet again and I won't ever forget that adrenalin filling event, I thought the time was counted for the young as the young dragon flew in a dash downwards with it's open parted yaw towards the young birds. All of the sudden the Female stroke down with it's talon wrapped around the young Dragons neck, causing huge injuries with the Talons on his body while both smashed into the ground. The weight of her body causing additional impact damage on the ground. While the young Dragon was able to cause some injuries back on the Female with his Claws, he was in dire need to avoid the beak and talons that was launched on him. After a big fight, the female went out with some deep Injuries but won the fight and took the young Dragon with her in her Talons grib, probably back to the tribe. My heart was still beating in rapid motion, being shocked and Impressed by the fight and happening on equal way, I lost their track and decided to move back to their tribe.
Watching the Female flying away with the Dragon and the child’s, I released a relieved sigh that they were fine. Noticing that during the fight she lost quite some feathers laying on the ground. Driven by curiosity I moved closer to the fighting ground, tree's where knocked off the ground damaged by the battle. I lifted the to my surprise very light weight feathers up and stroke with my hands along the edges. Soft like Silk it was and weight as much as you would suspect from a feather. It's durability remembered me a lot on a Spider web, alone it can't stand against a lot due to it's flexibility. But being covered in would give for sure a protection that came close to a Plate armour if not stronger with just a piece of weight it would usually have.
<.... On the page next to the text is a sketch of how the feather probably looked like, but the feather itself was missing.... >
As much as fascinated I was by the feather I was in need to get back to my camp before it got too dark to find the path back. It took me a long while to get back to my camp and the Tribe itself by the fact that I had to cut my way through the veins and the swamp regions to get back. Their hunting regions seem to be able to cover huge areas far from the Original tribe.
Their Cultural structure seems to follow some kind of tribe, they are sentient and are using their own kind of language. While the breeding process is what fascinates me most, when it seems to come to the Point the female would usually lay down the eggs, instead she offers herself to the male as tribute to be swallowed whole and alive during the process. The male swallows up the female such easily, like she's nothing more then a snack. Yet he shows so much passion towards her, that even when only her talon's are being able to seen inside his open beak sticking out the throat, he gently pushes the talons after with his wing, letting the gravity do the rest instead of gulping her just down.
It seems like the eggs are immune to Acid and being held in the warm surrounding of the males now pregnant looking belly, while the female gives herself to the male as food support for the breeding. It seems that after breeding, one of the female eggs has no essence, no soul, so that when she gets eaten, her body gets digested but her soul remains, inside that livingless egg.
As longer I observe these Birds, as more I do think there is more behind this breeding process then just being eaten for them. It may be some cyclus for them in a ritual kind of way. But seemingly they do not seem to fear what happens, by all the time I observed the male who does take the breeding and watch out part. I never saw him... releasing something of what he ate, when he ate one of his own kind. Whatever happens to them inside, is not going along the usual way.
The Harem that the Male seems to take care about is around the size of 7-9 Females, he seems to held the eggs inside his body for 8 weeks before laying the eggs into a <Nest> letting one of the Females taking care of. The Typical Nest size is 8 eggs but it seem to variate a little mostly by 1 egg.
It seems that in this tribe it's up to the Alpha male to take the first choice, while the other males left have to fight for their female. They seemingly try to impress them with their strength and skills in fight. From time to time even a younger male came and did challenged the Alpha male, the one who lost got fed to the soon to pregnant female as sign of strength to impress her or to the female that was soon chosen to be the Alpha ones female. As cruel as it seemed, it did kept the Alpha males female fed and took care that the unborn was well fed as well.
This kind of Ritual where the Alpha male choose his female, seems to happen every 22 years once the young reached age for pregnancy. Even that I'm already with them for quite a while, they look all such beautiful and young like they age a lot slower then we do.
The actual process of getting a wife seemed for these kind of birds always dramatic in their fights, but it wasn't only done with that. It was up to the wife to accept them either as mate or as meal. The habit could have turned at any given time, so it was seemingly up to the males of lesser ranking to keep their female up in mood and well fed if they didn't wanted to end up as food for their unborn them self. Eating a female was a privilege to the Alpha male given only during the ritual.
I observe them now for nearly a half year and still the fascination didn't went off... After a long time of Observing between me and the seemingly leader of the tribe. One of their child’s went more closely to me. I thought already my last hour would have come, the little female child observed me with his orange falcon like eyes talking to me with a high pitched childish voice, asking me if I'm the one the leader spoke about that is observing the tribe for all the time. Before I could answer it told me to follow and grabbed with his wing my hand, pulling me towards the big tribe leader.
After some long talk with the tribe leader, I was able to assure them that I was no threat. The long observing seem to have made him concern that I was planning no harm to them. From that moment on I lived my time with them and learned their culture. They aren't so different from other Tribes that live close to nature in this region and yet they are. They believe in the essence of live and living further in their children. A thought that seemed very odd to me, to sacrifice them self in a ritual even it isn't necessary.
The rank someone has in their tribe, seems to depend on the age and gender. When the young male grow, they have two choices. Guarding the Tribe together with the Alpha male or founding their own tribe. While the Female are free to leave the tribe or stay. When a Female seems to reach the right age for pregnancy, it's up to the Alpha Male to take his choice and once it got time for the Ritual the pregnant female will give herself willing in the said ritual as it would be some kind of... honour for them. From some females I heard, that the way the tribe works is different from tribe to tribe and can Variate inside a tribe as well. In some cases It's the female that chooses the male that she is willing to be given to. Or in some cases even the male that is given to the Female instead. It seems to variate on the age of the said Bird if it's either his or her role to choose or be chosen.
The eggs did finally hatch and to my surprise the fresh hatched birds seemed no bigger then a typical new born puppy and it took them weeks before they were able to open their eyes the first time. On first their feathers looked all the same and their head was bigger then their body giving a adorable cute look specially with their big eyes.
Their youngest are the most vulnerable , especially in their young age they can fall easily prey to ravenous predators or snakes when they aren't taking care of them self during the hunts. But even the elder one can get easily being snatched by Dragons. Their only defence against bigger predators if the Males that are protecting the tribe, which look intimidating with their appearance and their razor sharp talons that could even cut through a dragons scale.
I lived with them now for quite a while with them and lost any sense for time and every time I asked them what is all about that the female seems to be so excited to be eaten by the male I got as answer always a cheeky smile and a high pitched chuckle.
I lived now for years? together with them, they care of their guests like not even a king could do better to the highest roality. I grew old around them and watched the child’s grow... I'm old and my time would soon come. It was my 89th birthday.... my bones did hurt on every move and I could barely swallow food any more that wasn't pre-digested by the birds. As their child’s seem to be more then happy about something and dragged my old body along on my hands an pushed with their head and feathers against my back to get me moving. They brought me to the elder Male, that I knew for now for so long. He greeted me with a stern look like the first time we met. I did not know why he looked like that to me, after all the years I lived with them. But his face changed to a warm smile and he spoke about that a great gift would be given to me and I was supposed to prepare to celebrate. The Celebration would end with showing me their greatest secret.
During all the time I spend with them, the time itself seem to leave them alone. Giving no sign of ageing except in their younger years. They stayed up to their usual size until the second grow process kicked in with 120 years. The eldest of the Females became a Spiritual leader in this tribe and owned the right to decide when it was ready for her, to be eaten by the alpha male to close the circle. Their highest age is 300 but so far no one of them did ever died by ageing yet.
This is the last entry I will probably ever do any more, the celebration is close and the tribe is preparing everything for a huge festival. They are already piling up the firewood inside a circle of stones, with huge wooden Pillars standing far around that circle with self made masks and jewellery done by the child’s. Everything looked very fancy and I felt very excited that this celebration was all about me... they sure knew how to throw a party.
On my first day, I would have called them bloodthirsty beasts... by their appearance. But now after all that time... they are anything but that once you took your time to get to know them better.
I know already what that gift will be... one of the child told me that grew already quite up to my size within 18 years and the little one... eheheh... big one was sure excited about, that he couldn't held back to tell me. I was supposed to become a true part of their tribe, experiencing what all the females the male one swallowed did before. I would not just become aware of their secret, but getting to know it by myself on first person.
The ritual itself had the believing within of being reborn. That once taken by them, the one who had been chosen to be eaten will be reborn as one of their kind to close the circle. Rumours of the tribe do even tell that demons or soulless got cleaned during the process, that they became part of their kind and lived like them further on as child of mother nature.
The ritual itself is holy to them and not everyone gets the privilege to participate in it. Most who did just thought, all they need to do is being eaten remained further on in their existing not much more then a pile of bones being left.
I will leave my book behind, so everyone who will read it will know what happened to me. And what for wonderful creatures they are.....

Old and halfway rotten from it's outside appearance.
