The Changeling becomes an avatar of Autumn. Wind gathers around him, drawing in autumn leaves until he merges with them.
Loophole: The character catches a naturally falling leaf at the moment of the Contract's invocation, or something else the wind naturally bears aloft, such as a piece of errant paper or a bird's fallen feather.
- Changeling the Lost 2nd Edition, Chapter 3, Page 158A soft breeze blew a collection of fallen leaves through the park, the sky above and the trees within starting to dim as evening and Autumn started to arrive.
The leaves wandered through the ordered fields and gravel paths, weaving and winding in an almost serpentine way. Eventually, it came across an open and empty clearing, where they began to collect, the breeze picking up to keep them together and off the ground.
As the wind grew stronger, the leaves grew closer together, slowly molding themselves into the basic shape of an antlered man. As they fell into place, they began to fuse, steading turning to antler and fur as an jackalope-like man formed from the swarm, hovering for a moment as his legs came into being.
"Well, that was too close..." Jack muttered as the wind began to die down, his fully formed paws touching the grass as the green gave way to brown around him. Quickly stepping off the lawn, leaving behind a trail of withered, dried grass, he checked around him, making sure he was alone before claiming a nearby bench.
Pulling a well-worn journal and an equally aged pencil from his jacket, he flipped to an empty page and scribbled a quick note.
Investigation with shapeshifters went south. An errant breeze pushed my scent towards them, alerting the pack to my presence. They cornered me in an ally, and with no doors to portal through, I was forced to invoke a Royal Contract to escape, 'Riding the Fallen Leaves'. Caught a newspaper blowing overhead to invoke the loophole, and managed to escape without further issue.
'Best keep my head low for the time being...' Jack thought to himself, packing his journal away, knowing a copy of the note will be read by another Autumn Courtier in its sister journal back at the Freehold's Archives.
A pair of mortal humans walked by him and he gave a polite nod towards them. They eyed him, and he could sense their unease as they passed quickly and quietly, unnerved by his mask: a scruffy man who's well past a shave and a haircut, but his eyes invoked some primal fear in them that was hard to describe.
Jack gave a low smile, tasting their unease. A cold, bitter taste not to dissimilar to coffee mixed with unspoken spices that lingered on the back of your tongue, keeping you on edge. From this, he could feel glamour seeping through his fur, giving him a slight boost he didn't realize he needed, almost as though he just had a shot of actual espresso.
'Well, at least it wasn't a total loss...' he thought as he collected himself, leaving behind a brown, withered leaf on the bench as he stood. 'Still, her Majesty might not be willing to overlook the use of a Royal Contract, even if it was for good reason...' he continued as he began the journey towards the nearby bus station, feeling the bus card in his back pocket.
'Hopefully she's in a good mood today...'
