Much like Barbara, Sylvia was left alone by her own pack, as they considered her to be too weak to fight and survive with them. Embittered and determined to prove them wrong, she traveled around to fight and hone her skills, slowly improving herself. After several months of wandering, she ran into Andrew, who sent out Roxanne to fight. Despite losing terribly, Sylvia was far too stubborn and didn't want to give up fighting, and even broke out of several PokeBalls tossed at her when she was weakened, before finally giving up. Andrew and his team were left impressed by her strength and determination to win, and tried to befriend her-however, she didn't seem to cooperate at first. Attempting to run away or attacking Andrew and other teammates, she tried to find her way to prove herself better than others and thus, make Andrew unworthy of calling her his Pokemon. However, realizing how Andrew was equally stubborn and determined to prove her that he has no intentions of making her his fighting tool and that he means well to her, she slowly opened herself up and decided to give everyone a chance. Over time, she grow more fond of her new trainer, and slowly realized (and panicked a bit) that the admiration was growing into something more serious. However, unlike her newer teammate, Mimi, she was far more modest and subtle about showing off her affection towards Andrew, sparking jealousy from always competitive Mimi, who seemed to feel something for Andrew as well.
