Some weird, vaguely deer-like critter I've been drawing all over my school papers.
The mask covers their eyes so that they learn to live without sight from birth, learning to navigate through the trees through their other senses. Masks are only removed during festival days, [mostly during the fall when the leaves are changing and colorful] where many will gather together to celebrate.
Antlers begin to grow in both genders when they reach maturity. The antlers are thick and durable, and are never shed. "Elders" [20-30] will often grow a second, smaller set beneath the original pair.
Without a mask they are considered outcasts, but a select [rarely numbers more than 20] group of creatures are selected to be in charge of mask-making and the masking of newborns, as well as the few tasks within the community that require the use of sight. [decorating for festivals] They are masked, but eye holes are cut to allow them to see.
Though compact and fluffy, outwardly resembling a very large rodent of some sort, they are most closely related to deer. They have lost their hooves over the years in favor of hand-like paws, being more well-suited to living in the trees, but retain their antlers.
The back slopes upward, making their hind legs longer than their forelegs. The front legs are used primarily for grasping objects and balance, while the back legs are more strongly muscled to provide more power, allowing them to run at an upwards of 30 mph.
Their base color must be white, but markings range in colors and patterns. Light blue, as pictured here, is sometimes seen but not very common. Most have black somewhere on their body.
---
Yes, I get really bored in class. Still tweaking this and working on their anatomy, as well as thinking of a name. (I keep calling them Ryn, maybe that'll stick]
I probably won't adopt these out or sell them since I simply don't have the time, but I'll probably let my friends make their own or something. For the time being, please don't make one without permission.
