The sun swept terrace of the manner was silent save for the soft whispering breeze of the morning's light. Luthien stood, arms resting against the stone railing, searching for answers to questions she could not make wholly real or otherwise.
Something had woken her, before the first beams of dawn light reached her. Something had tugged on her mind, compelling her to wake. And yet, when she had woken there was nothing there. No minder nor tangible aspect of thought to cling to. It was simply as though a dream had urged her to wake and then vanished like so much fog in the sun light.
She had been ready to dismiss the thought, when a soft white effulgence lit the far side of the room, the dim light growing steadily for a moment before fading. A faint pulse, in rhythm and time; not unlike a slow heart beat. The feather, left behind, continued to pulse and glow, beating in the earliest hours of the morning, glowing now of its own accord, no longer in the sunlight.
Had it been a dream? Or something else entirely... Dreams were no less real, but they were confined to the dreamtime alone. This was entirely different. Some sort of dream made real, perhaps. A thousand thousand questions begged for attention all at once, each more desperate and more curious than the last.
Luthien sighed, looking from the vast expanse before her to the solitary feather she held, its pulsing light barely visible as the dawn had crept back into the sky. Despite the day's light washing away the feather's own, she could feel something more from it; a slow and steady pulse. It made no sound, save for the thought of a gentle thump. Imagined, or real, she knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that she felt it. And that it had drawn her from sleeping.
The true question was, beyond all others, why...
The first of many, no doubt. A small bridge piece for an ongoing little story, revolving around Luthien. Well, revolving around many, but for the time being focusing on her. Many questions come to mind, and all will be explained. Well, maybe. I make no promises, save for the promise that you will have questions.
I, for one, am excited!
Thanks again for the wonderful work,
