I think it's a bit of, slightly humerous, irony, that one of the best things to help prevent the cuts would be a... chainmail glove (albeit one of the tinier mesh ones, usualy used in restraunts for handling knives). 'wear what you can make, to protect you from the tools to make it' heh.
