Incorrect Anatomy - Mimi's miscellaneous
Some magical creatures have perfected the art of camouflage to an astonishing degree, mimicking everyday objects used by mortals in order to better deceive them. This ranges from a chest to a door, but the oldest among them can even take on the appearance of buildings. Such is the case with this entity, which has continually adapted to its prey.
“Mimi’s Miscellaneous” does not possess intelligence in the sense that we might attribute to a human being; she remains an animal. However, her ability to adapt and imitate has enabled her to mimic human handwriting and give herself a name for the benefit of ordinary people. Mimi has developed a very interesting hunting technique: disguised as a homeware shop, she sets up in key locations, often near building sites to conceal her sudden appearance. Once in position, she remains open and lets passers-by wander amongst her displays. As her tills are self-service, staff are not an issue. When Mimi deems the moment right, she closes her doors and alters the physical form of her prey. Draining their humanity to feed on it, she leaves behind parts of the bodies, transformed for the occasion.
These remains are reworked and put back on her shelves, like a stock of freshly arrived goods. The materials used in her decorations are, in fact, very realistic, but her creations… Mimi remains an animal who knows what an owl looks like, but she has no understanding of anatomy whatsoever.
Nevertheless, mortals seem to appreciate her creative naivety and encourage her by taking several of the trophies from her feasts.

Could you explain your reaction a bit more, please? What is "Genius Loci"?
Or are you referring to the fact that the mimic, Mimi, is the lively place?
(If so, I wasn’t familiar with the word and I’d like to thank you for teaching me. I’ll add it to the tags!)
In any case… I would have told you to pay your compliment directly to the mimic, but that would be inadvisable for your health.

In the most literal antiquated terms, a 'genius loci' is a protective spirit assigned to a specific place, IE a brownie or family spirit.
In more modern terminology, a 'genius loci' is a living place - a location with an intelligence of its own, that interacts with its inhabitants in some way. Popular examples include Silent Hill, Pandora from Avatar, and Mogo the living planet. That also includes Mimi!

Who knows whether Mimi the mimic drew inspiration from human creations, or whether humans drew inspiration from Mimi’s creations to produce such botched items and sell them.
Such anatomical incompetence is forgivable in an animal creating a decoy. But an intelligent animal like a human being ought to have the decency to get things right.
Clearly, mortals are disappointing in this respect too.
Nevertheless, glad that you enjoyed this page.
(OOC : When I saw those sculptures at Halloween, whether they were owls or spiders, I thought they were absolutely hilarious. So I jotted it down on my list of ‘keywords for drawing a TF sequence’. I’ve got loads of silly keywords like that XD)

Indeed.
Most of them are natural materials (bone and ivory, or hair and keratin, for example) or items that a mortal might carry on their person: fabric from clothes or bags, paper from a notebook, plastic from an ID card...
Whilst, in the case of glass and electronics*, one can imagine that the smartphones of your era are used as raw materials, I still have no idea how she manages to turn flesh into plaster or resin.
And yet, I have sent several humans to feed her and try to understand the process.
To no avail.
*: Yes, she uses electronics. But no, she does not know how to use them: if you dare take a lamp from her, there is no point plugging it in. She has no understanding of electronics; it will not work. But it is one of her best lures: her victims come back of their own accord to complain and exchange the item.
Except they never come out a second time.
