Oh yay! We should start a club.
bubblewolf also sticks to 0.5mm, afaik.
Lots of people hate this tool, saying it's for accountants, not for artists. I remember it nearly drove my instructor nuts when he took it from me to do a correction and the lead kept breaking 4 times in a row on one line. :P
I personally love how the tool forces you into thinking about patterns and textures more carefully. Good for training patience, too.

I remember shortly after I first started posting artwork on deviantART someone told me something along the lines that a mechanical pencil was something for amateurs, and that I should step up to real artists tools. But here I am still using it, especially after I discovered that they come in softnesses all the way to 4B.
I love it especially for shading in sharp lines right next to one another.

Real artist tools? Real artists use whatever they like, including actual shit, if they want to. Sticking only to orthodox tools "because REAL artists use them" sounds a bit more amateurish than a mechanical pencil.
4B? I deffinitely need to find some of those. I'm stuck on a 2B.

That's the thing - I checked all the art stores nearby, 2B was the softest they had. I assumed it's the softest period. Now that I know that 4B exists, I may be able to bug them into getting a shipment (I've already successfully bugged them into ordering a mechanical pencil no normal person would buy due to price). What is the brand of the 4B leads? Because neither Faber-Castell nor Rotring seem to have 4B.
Don't tempt me into scanning my entire sketch box... it would take weeks...
Was thinking of doing something fun with them, but need hosting for a few thousands of images and a site that would allow a PHP script to be run. Kind of difficult when on a ̶s̶h̶o̶e̶s̶t̶r̶i̶n̶g̶ nonexistent budget.
No worries, take your time. It's not like you have to reply if you don't feel like it. :)

It's so bloody frustrating, isn't it?
It's like when you remember how long you haven't drawn, you can practically FEEL the drawing skills go away, the precious tar-like draftsmanship juices seeping through the skin of your arm, slowly dribbling onto the floor and shortly vanishing, the possibility of an artwork of that moment lost... forever... AND YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT!

Yeah, I feel the same way.
I noticed that making very short sketches (~2min) often throughout the day helps keep that feeling at bay. It's like... not about making awesome drawings, but just avoiding completely detaching from the experience of drawing, so it's not as hard to sit down and draw again when the time comes.

Speaking of posting... It should be about time you two lovebird absentees showed us something. :)
And smack Flywheel out of his linguistics' comfort zone already, those vocabularies are eating him alive! Make him art! Chain him to a desk and force him to express himself! He may not like it, but we sure will!

He is next to me on the couch right now (his last week here in Canada). He says: "Aaaaah! Aaaaaaaah!!" :)
He's the one who's been smacking me! With mixed results... Lack of computer has forced him to draw with pencils and paper; he's been doing a lot of character sketching. With luck we'll both post something soon.

lol yeah im painfully aware ;-; for a time i was similarly super busy but now ive got almost nothing going on and am just moping over the fact that i feel woefully rusty after what was pretty much an 8-month long decent into artistic barrenness... its kind of disheartening, but im slowly but surely trying to buff up my art muscles
Always good to be "back". Too bad I can't do it as often.
It's sort of both: at first there's no time as the deadlines require insane working hours, afterwards it's no energy as I'm too tired to do anything. There's also the third: no inspiration - being stuck in a work-sleep routine doesn't result in any new experiences.
Hopefully should be better in a month or so.
