I don't know if he's a licensed doctor. That stethoscope headband isn't in direct contact with the fin. A literal sin. How are they going to get a pulse?? Maybe he should make contact with it... It's worth a shot.

That's a head mirror actually. It's a device that reflects light onto the area they want to see, though for me, it's more of a doctor fashion accessory. He mostly took lessons from Scuttle on how to check for a pulse x3
