Sad but true, I recall seeing a spot in the genius book of world records for the most money ever paid for and on-line game piece of property. It was something like $15,000 -$30,000 (real money that some one paid) or some high price like that for an island in the game.

Yup, People are dumb enough to do that. Whats sad is when it's for pay to play games. Free to play, I understand, because they usually sell gear through the company itself and they hafta get operating costs somehow.

This is why I play EVE Online. The only things you buy with cash are purely cosmetic. Meanwhile, I've been able to use in-game currency to pay for the game. I haven't spent a dime on it since the first month.

hilariously people sell items for real money in WoW, and if blizzard finds out about it, they just up and ban your account. there goes all the monthly fees you sunk into the game, and what you just spent on the items.

There are entire websites out there dedicated to selling in game "stuff" and frankly it IS insane! Especially when games have in game BROKER systems to handle this stuff without real world money.
