When we last left off in my Equestria dreamscape. One of the things that Luna and Celestia got to see in greater detail while they were exploring around around in my sleep http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6448663 was a clearer picture of what the Kingdom of Shadows was like. This also gave them a better feel for what's ruler the Lord of Shadows is like http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6397186 . What they saw was did not appealing to them. Here is some of the wildlife they saw in my dreams.
Now none of these creatures are native to Equestria and like the creepy cyclop critter I summoned in my sleep http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6272094 they all have a disturbing element to their form.
The three eyed Night Screamers are particularly disturbing to look at. By themselves these pigeon-size creatures are not terribly dangerous, but they often live in large flocks and are very territorial. Therefore they often used as sentry creatures around important areas in the Kingdom of Shadows. Also their piercing scream will often alert other critters like the Bloodhorns.
Bloodhorns are very aggressive and are about the size of a full grown pony. Also they hunt in packs of ten or more. They look kind of like a ghoulish versions of unicorns and the princesses wondered if they might be descendants of poor ponies that were dragged into the land of shadows. Bloodhorns are sometimes used like guard dogs in that world.
Horror mouth worms are not actually true worms but appear to be some type of reptilian creature. They grow to about twelve feet in length and can swallow a pony whole with their extending and dividing jaws. They are blind usually lie in ambush in tunnels, hillsides and rubble/ ruins.
Barbheads are silent hunters that do not eat their victims flesh. They have no eyes but appear to have excellent hearing and sense of smell. They possess no jaw and instead their skulls form to a sharp, reinforced point. At the very tip of this point this is a small opening from which they can extend a long serpentine tongue and inject a deadly poison. Their main mode of attack is to leap out from cover and impale their victim with their awl-like head. At the same time they inject the prey with a poison that rapidly causes the unfortunate targets muscle, tissue and internal organs to disintegrate and hemorrhage. After the victim dies the Barbhead begin to drink the liquid that once was the preys blood, muscle and internal organs. Using their long tongue and skull like a soda straw to ingest their meal.
Leap n' bites are a small bipedal creatures that scurry around in the shadows and rubble. Generally not too dangerous they will sometimes under the right conditions form giant packs of a 100 or more. Then like army ants they proceed to ravage and devour anything in their path. In much the same way piranhas will do in drought conditions or in the presence of food shortages.

Oh, I would not be surprised if various bits and pieces of these critters are result of numerous Discovery channel specials. National Geographic programs, Animal Planets series and assorted PBS specials. After all sleep is where your subconscious churns, sorts, files and processes information your brain has received. And I do have a copy of Barlowe's Guide to Exterrestials so I am familiar with his work.
Nothing. I rather like the character. However she has had the unfortunate fate of being a pivotal character that my subconscious decided to use for plot advancement. I guess she is living part of that of that famous curse. "May you come to the attention of important people."
