William is the youngest fledgling of the vampire progenitor, Vail. His elder sibling, Aventin, had presented as an omega a century ago. The number of covens vying to have Aventin mated into their ranks was obscene. But the life of an omega is a gilded cage that Aventin was desperate to avoid. In order to do this, Aventin swore into a life of near solitude in the great vampire library as its caretaker.
Upon seeing how things turned out for Avey, Vail was desperate to protect William from the same fate. So, his status as an omega was hidden.
