Yes, it's a great opportunity to be close to these kinds of animals.
If you've got a wildlife center or sanctuary near you, I expect they'll be open to volunteer labor. Conservators' Center has a small but dedicated core of volunteers that we rely on for lots of things.
And if you'd just like to take photos, lots of places (including CCI) offer photo tours. They aren't cheap, but they let you have a chance to shoot through the fence. (And depending on the type of animals, inside the fence. I know Wolf Park in Indiana offers a photography seminar that includes time inside the main pack's 6 acre enclosure to photograph their pack.)

That sounds cool, I live in Ontario, there is probably conservation areas up north, but i live in the city.
I tried my luck at taking good shots at the Zoo, but they came out alright, too many people there X3
