I heard that the creators of the 12k2 series tried to pay homage to Ol' Hob by making Tigerclaw don the eye-patch. (I assume that T.C. takes an eye injury somehow. I haven't seen all of the episodes yet.)
Personally, I like him better as him being Tigerclaw. There was no need for him to share similarities with another mutant.
