Also, the lovely orchid mantis next to me here is the one and only
WhiteMantis, also known as Nae.
It seems that corruption is a two-way street! While I've been constantly increasing WM's affection for alliteration and snakes and all things snakey and naughty (or I'd like to think I am), she's subtly seduced me into becoming more Orient-Oriented. At least for this picture!
So here we have the shy (but not helpless!) geisha and a traveling serpentine.. samurai? Storyteller? Both? The mantis holds a large paintbrush that is also a tanto blade within! ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tant%C5%8D ) She also holds a traditional paper fan that has smaller brushes as its 'spines' or 'spokes'. If this were in colour, each brushtip would be stained a different shade, I'm sure.
Meanwhile, the python possesses a giant fountain pen that is also katana (no link needed for them, I'd say).
WM and I were tossing this line about when that came up: "They say the pen is mightier than the sword, but what about a pen that is ALSO a sword?" :}===<
Getting a commission together was her idea, when she spotted Viral doing lovely, inexpensive, black & white art. I believe the "artistic implements as weapons (or vice versa)" idea and the title were mine.
So, I suppose the message is.. don't cross us.. or I'll tell you a really violent story.. and Nae will paint a picture about it. A picture with a lot of RED in it. >:}
