Zhakrid's relentless search for a new meaning in life took her far and wide. She didn’t know exactly what she was looking for or where her path would lead her. The hope of finding an answer was her source of strength, the longing in her heart her compass, and the invisible voice that still called to her was her guide.
Countless hours, days and weeks lay behind her – too many for her to count. On this day, too, the air beneath the mighty canopy of the Maguuma Jungle was thick and humid. Zhakrid was not used to the merciless climate. She did not know what had driven her to come here to this hellish place. Yet she refused to turn back.
More days passed without result. Just as she was about to give up all hope, Zhakrid suddenly caught sight of something strange; something hiding behind a curtain of water. It was so beautiful and yet so eerie that her body refused to obey her. The voice, that call in her head, grew louder and tried to drive her forward, but her legs were as if turned to stone. It felt like an exhausting eternity before Zhakrid could finally shake off that paralysing fear.
Zhakrid could only take those final steps with the greatest of effort. Her body was at the end of its tether. The glow before her was almost blinding, as if it were trying to shield itself from the explorer. Zhakrid’s heart was pounding so hard in her chest that it actually hurt. Breathing heavily, she relaxed her limbs and forced herself to find inner calm. At that very moment, the glow before her dimmed. It now had a soothing and calming quality that stood in stark contrast to the hellish atmosphere, like a protective refuge.
Zhakrid, still slightly dazzled, squinted her eyes: "A tablet?" Unaware of what a fateful discovery she had made on that very day…
