Not at all! It is very appropriate for many costumes, just not most cartoon characters ^^;
For example, see all of the official pokemon mascots (and these two). They are great because they are smooth like the artwork of that species. Most pokes don't have a zig-zag outline, and using fur like DF will give them one.
None of that matters if your fursuit char is a fluffy fluffy fox :3
