This is an old character of mine, Sendrica. Sendrica is a hawk, and hawks tend to eat mice, regardless of whether the mice tell them not to. She scarfed down little Mindy here and ignored the protests until they went quiet seconds later.

The next day, she felt a tap and looked down to see a rodent prodding her scaly foot, ready to give her a good talking-to.

It took a while to get over having a walking snack address her by name, but it wasn't long before she grew a bit attached to the fuzzy little bugger. Then she started carrying Mindy on her shoulder to keep her from getting underfoot. That just felt impersonal, so she moved on to tucking the mouse in her chestfluff or by her crest.

Hard to say just when it happened, but she couldn't help falling in love with her little murine mahout. She still ate Mindy, of course. She just asked very politely for permission, and the mouse said yes.
