They say that in ancient days the angels fought a war with themselves. One third of the host left to found Hell. For those too rebellious to reincarnate it serves as the afterlife. I wonder, if they were to tell this story, would it be the same?
Opening – The Duchy of Agony
A gold furred lion finds himself in Hell wearing a blindfold and carrying a sword.
Snow: Well.
Avira: Young one.
Mezeca: Look what.
Avran: We.
Celeb: Have.
Makelith: Here.
Dusk: And so the Watchers have spoken to me. I greet you.
Avran: Oh?
Snow: Young one.
Mezeca: You know.
Avran: Who.
Celeb: We.
Pashia: Are.
Snow: And tell.
Versa: Me.
Dissain: Young.
Krian: One.
Celeb: What.
Mezeca: Brings you.
Pashia: To our.
Avira: Domain?
Dusk: I wish to ask you a question.
Snow: Proper.
Celeb: Yes very proper.
Avran: Well you’re in.
Pashia: The right.
Avira: Place. The spell you.
Mezeca: Used was for.
Versa: That.
Snow: But I must.
Avran: Warn you.
Celeb: It won’t be.
Dissain: Easy.
Krian: You are in.
Celeb: A place we.
Versa: Like to.
Pashia: Call.
Snow: The Duchy of.
Avira: Agony.
Dusk: Good. Well then, what do I do?
Dissain: Climb to the top of.
Avira: All seven towers then.
Avran: Climb the central one.
Pashia: And you may.
Mezeca: Just receive.
Versa: An.
Krian: Answer.
Dusk: Well then. I have one request.
Celeb: Oh? And.
Snow: What would that.
Makelith: Be?
Dusk: Don’t go easy.
Laughter.
Heyo. I asked myself a question recently. How could I get a game to print faster than Dragon Engine will take? The answer is simple. Use what I already have, use a set player character and tell a more linear story. This script here is the opening to one of my side projects, Duskbringer. I have enough assets done to push it through production while working on the full release of Dragon Engine.
Duskbringer follows our protagonist the blindfolded lion Dusk as he ventures through Hell in search of the answer to a question. Along the way he meets the Watchers, the lords of Hell and the original leaders of the fallen angels who founded it. Then the tables turn as the Watchers make a request of him in exchange for something he wants.
There are ten Watchers and here you see their ability to cooperate. Are they evil? Well, you’d better ask them. Their story is a lot different on the inside than it appears from the rest of Creation. The game is planned to be a third person shooter with some melee combat. I have a template for this format already on file from the Godot Engine community.
The real challenge will be designing the setting Hell. I am not doing the horror themes common in the Hell video game genre. This is not something my company does. I am asking a question though as I design the landscapes. “Are they happier than we are?” It’s a hard truth that Dusk encounters that the Watchers have a better life than he does. My first region is the Duchy of Agony and it will have a dark Ancient Asian theme. I’m thinking the second region will be a jungle.
