what if, Whirlwind Skylanders, but scenecore?????
I chose this for three reasons, A: I just like Whirlwind, she's cute. B: she shoots rainbows, uhhh rainbows??? Is that a scenecore reference?????/j and C: I find that the dragons from Skylanders tingle a wider range of peoples autism, not everyond will like, say, Jawbreaker, or Ember, but EVERYONE likes the swag autism Skylanders like the dragons, or Enigma, or Snap Shot, or Wildfire.
It really is fascinating how Skylanders has evolved as a hyperfixation. I remember a couple years ago you could get any o the Skylanders games dirt cheap, but now the retro games market has run its course. A copy of Skylanders: Swap Force from an EB games in 2020 for like, 5$ is now selling for 100$ (CAD), and 150$ for the PS4 version. Pay attention to thrift stores, they might stock them. It is sad, though. Everyones complaining about how ludicrous the prices are for modern games or whatever, but we're getting people really exploiting others nostalgia by selling common items for an insane markup. Late stage capitalism, I guess.
I remember visiting a used game store in london, a chain, it's called "cex", pretty cool place, wish we had some cex shops in Canada.
Anyways, there was this kid, couldn't be any older than nine years old. He wore a Skylanders backpack. he was with his mom, they were trying to track down Skylanders. Pretty sure I got a streetpass from that kid, too. It was.... A weird feeling. I remember getting into retro games when I was ten, obsessing over the late 90's and early 2000's era of gaming, and now Skylanders has become that. It's.... nice.
Skylanders (the toys) have actually gone up in market value, not by much. I was suprised. I used to want all of them, but now there honestly aren't that many Skylnaders I want to own. Green Gill Grunt, Turbo-charge Pet-Vac, S1 Dark Spyro, Sparx, and Phantom Cynder, mainly.
the game is pretty mindless, but is that bad? The game was designed as something very young children could play with their parents. So, people who don't normally play games. It was a Wii title for a reason. Honestly, I can play the game with one hand, it's nice. If you wanna be an absolute slob drinking while playing the game, yeah, it got you covered lol.
people talk about how the game is predatory, and how the toys aren't good because they don't have articulation, but that misses the point, the toys, and the game, are only half the experience. It's an action figure line, a v-pet, and an action game all at once, and you must enjoy all aspects at once to get the full expirience. Of course, as an adult I'm no longer playing with the toys, but the loop of playing with toys, and playing the game is really nice synergy. You can go on adventures with your Skylanders anywhere. I actually used to do a lot of macrophotography with the Skylanders, because it really brings to life that old childhood whimsy of bringing my toys with me as a kid, where the environments I would play in were just as whimsical as the game.
to a child, Skylanders is a magical experience, you are the portal master, their world, and potentially yours, is in danger. You have the rare and exclusive ability to send them back to their world and send them on a magical journey, growing with them over the years. I think I only brought my skylanders to a friends house once to actually play the game, it was drill sergeant, but I brought my toys with me a lot as a kid. It made exploring the real world with my Skylanders as interesting as exploring the world with the toys.
there are rumours of a new game, and I think whats going to happen is a new Spyro game will come out, but it will have Skylanders as the characters in it. Unless TFB is just that scared of pissing off Spyro fans, I think they're waiting just a bit longer to capitalize on the game, the demand is there, but the demand could grow higher, until people either stop caring or it becomes something to seriously cash in on.
So, what would I want out of a Skylanders game?
I want it to have more Vpet elements. I want there to be some kind of clip on each figure so you can easily turn it into a keychain, I want a mobile companion app for the vpet elements. I want some kind of hubworld, or version of the dreadyacht people can fully customize, and I want online play so people can visit each others hub worlds. Essentially, I want Skylanders: Lost islands to be part of the main experience. Make the lost islands/heroic challenge parts in addition to the campaign, but the campaign (and other side content) are in the big boy console experience, but with a free mobile version that lets you access the hub world and heroic challenges, so you can manage your skylanders/hub anywhere.
This way they can capitalize on the genshin crowd, the cozy game crowd. And it makes the game overall more accessible, so if people don't own the big boy console, or can't afford the starter pack,, they can just buy a toy and install the app. Oh, and the free version would also probably have a switch release considering the large casual consumerbase of switch users. When you consider theres a lot of people who aren't gamers anymore who probably played Skylanders on their wii, having a free mobile version could get a lot more people to buy in and try the game again. For children, parents, and non-gamers its a really smart move that would go against the common complaint of the game being very anti-consumer.
I know this is EXTREMELY unrealistic, they'd just release a new game/remake and somehow add unnecessary microtransactions, but I seriously think they should evolve the game to appeal to a different demographic, people debate if a new game should even use the toys so make the toys a bigger part of the experience.
Oh, and for the love of the ancients don't use the current TFB art style. I think it would be great if the environmental design was similar to something like Arcane, with the actual character models similar to their Ring of Heroes counterparts.
I don't think we'll get a new game anytime soon, but honestly? I don't have much to say about the games themselves, they're fun, giants has a beautiful art style. But the games are kind of just redundant with a cool art style. That being said, I would love to cosplay as Gill Grunt at some point.
I played a bit of Skylanders recently, the game is fine. I really liked Trigger Happy, shockingly. I thought his moveset would be slop but he's super fun. Actually, here's a top five Skylanders
5-sigh.... Stormblade.
4-Dino-Rang
3-Trigger Happy (specifically his spring time big bang mouthful of a variant)
2- Magna Charge
1- Chop-Scotch (specifically her Candy-Coated variant)
I also made this art to test aspect ratios on different social medias. Basically, It's not ideal to post horizontal art to DeviantArt because the artwork will immediately turn into a horizontal aspect ratio when browsing on mobile, something similar to 4:3 (not quite, a bit wider) and because its automatic, the preview for the art might not be ideal, this is why my art has been made to fit DA's aspect ratio better. But I don't think this is ideal for other social medias like Tumblr, since they display the full art and you're scrolling through them, so on platforms like those, the longer, vertical post will take up more real estate on peoples screens, drawing more attention to the art. So I tried something different, making vertical art, but giving it a horizontal preview when posted to DA. This is an experiment so idk how well it'll work lol
this post is being re-posted to FurAffinity, and the description is being altered from the original DeviantArt posting, with some things changed due to the format differences but also because there's some stuff you guys wouldn't be familiar with that I casually mentioned in the description, like old oc's, or my history making Skylanders fan content or whatever, the only reason I'm bringing this up is because I have yet to learn what a proper aspect ratio is on this platform, but given its format is similar to DA just without the forced aspect ratio change I imagine it doesn't matter much.
anyways if people like this enough I'll probably do an emo/grunge sunburn, unless you have any other ideas for alt fashion anthro Skylanders.
(this is my 200th post added to the skylanders fanart and oc's gallery btw lol)

TYSM! Yeah, the descriptions are honestly what I pride myself in. Sometimes I'll draw something just to write about it in the description. It's why I stay on DeviantArt and have a hard time going to other social medias that don't prioritize descriptions, its also why I've been loving FA! (tho, you cant add images to the description, but I guess you could link stash post? Idk) super happy you enjoyed the art and description!
Skylanders was my childhood, obsessed with it, throughout highschool the hyperfixation got a second wave, and when I graduated I absolutely despised Skylanders because of how hyperfixated I was on it, I've since cooled down, now I'm neutral on the series but still have a near encyclopedic knowledge of it XD
