PezWolf -- people made a huge mistake allowing politics to turn soldiers into war-criminals during Vietnam, they also made a mistake turning them into forgotten conquerors in the Gulf War, they made the largest mistake (twice!, in my lifetime) propping up their heroism as a shield against criticism of a half-assed occupation based on overblown speculations and failed ideology. THEY ARE NOT POLITICAL TOOLS. Yet we don't let them speak as to what they are.

It doesnt even take that. If you talk to a lot of Iraq and Afghanistan vets, they will tell you how quickly society turns their back on them once they come home. Theyre celebrated and given respect, but they get home and its like no one notices or cares that theyre the same people who they were supporting last year. It makes me quite sad.
