There is our brave heroine now, facing almost certain death by running away, leaving everyone else to die in the flames. "Dies irae" indeed.

The title of the comic, "Madame Sorcière" (French for "Miss Witch"), is Circé's self-applied nickname. Bold of her to call herself a witch (even in secret) during a time in European history when witches, or anybody accused of being one, were considered heretics and generally burned alive at the stake.

Also, if you haven't ever seen the film "Season of the Witch" starring Nicolas Cage and Ron Perlman, I recommend it. The film is set during the same time as "Madame Sorcière" and has served as an influence on me in the creation of this comic. It can usually be found on the Tubi streaming app.

Another influence I feel I should mention here is "Prequelle", the fourth album by the Swedish rock band, Ghost (yes, there will be a few Ghost references as well). I listened to the album a lot during the initial creation of Circé and the comic.
