I really wish I could help. I love cats and hate seeing them suffer but I am seriously broke. I recently spent like 500 dollars on a cat I rescued. He was abandoned and nearly starving to death. I gave him a home and vet care.

I can spare $16 I will also mention your journal in mine. My kitty is doing great but I think he misses his brother. He randomly meows at nothing. He needs a playmate. My other cat is to old to play and she is a grump. He tries to play with her and she hisses at him.

Oh poor kitty :( I'm glad he's in loving hands with you though, god these cat stories are killing me, so when I know someone is helping to make a difference in even a single cats life it means freaking everything to me. There are commercials on tv I have to turn off cause they make me cry. I hate seeing cats abused. I have pretty awful cat stories from back when I was a kid. There are some people out there that need to be shot.

I agree! There is a guy at my work who really pisses me off. There is a cat lady next to him and he wants to shoot the cats. The things he says about the cats really ticks me off. I been in a few fights with him over it. If he ever does do something to these cats... He will be in a lot of trouble. Me and this other guy really hate animal abuse.

I like dogs but don't want any as a pet. What ticked me off with that was... The neighbor boys were cheering the dog on and laughing. Than running from me after I saved the cat. XD Yeah that guy isn't loved. He really needs to take a look at himself and make some major changes. Yeah.

Parents were messed up too. I have no idea what happened to those guys. That was yeaaars ago. The guy at work... We don't know what is wrong with him. His dad isn't like he is.

Do you realize how incredibly ignorant this comment is? First of all, MOST of the cats 95% of cats that are brought to POUNDS are killed either on the first day, or within 5 days of being turned in because no one wants to adopt. Second, it's not free, it costs $30 - $50 in the US to abandon an animal at a shelter. Third, learn to read, they were just rescued from the shelter.

The worse part of it is that most people who turn their animals in don't realize they are turning their animals into their death. I hate the fucking shelter systems.

You know, I can mildly relate here. While I'm not big on cats/dogs, I have the softest spot for snakes. I guess because so many people DON'T have that soft spot. :/

I wish I could spare some money to help, but I'm pretty much broke myself... however, I will say, you did somewhat offend me with all your "die" comments (especially the one involving fire)-- thats how I lost my grandmother and aunt. Its an AWFUL way to go... :/

I'm sorry about your grandmother I'm sure your grandmother was a wonderful person. However that cannot relate to what I feel here but I'm sorry you took offense. I am not trying to offend anyone. The experience I have with them and the animals lost because of them have ripped me to shreds, I have a right to feel the way I feel and I am horribly bitter because of it.

As I can tell, I just consider it a bit more of a childish outburst. Do we really know the conditions of the animals before they're put down? Unless I'm mistaken, most shelters run off of donations and the fees from animal drop-offs and/or adoptions-- Say its $20 (which is on the cheaper side of the scale) per animal in the shelter, assuming all animals are turned in by owners and not by someone who claims to have found a stray just to get out of the payment... and say they can hold 100 animals.... each one that is eligible to be adopted would need to be checked out by a vet (which in and of itself isn't cheap), and if they're ill, be treated. Then theres the cost of food/water for the animals, and thats not even touching on the actual cost of the facility itself. The building(s), cleaning, garbage, utilities (water, electricity, phone)... Its more expensive than most people think. n. n; Its just... unrealistic to think that every animal can be saved... as much as I hate it.

For an average female cat that is kept indoors, you're looking at a very minimum of 40 kittens in her lifetime assuming she goes into heat 4 times/year, has one kitten in every litter (ONLY one), and lives for 10 years... could have UP TO 1008 kittens in her lifetime, again, this is for an indoor non-spayed cat... if kept strictly outdoors, you'd be looking at a minimum of 8 kittens (if the mother had only one kitten per litter and lived only 2 years) and up to 224 kittens (in 4 years time).... like I said, its impratical to expect each and every cat to find a home... we'd be swimming in cats.

I never said you didn't have a right to feel that way, but I would watch my words a little more... you'd attract more flies with honey than vinegar-- always good for your cause, right? (Again, this comes from my own experience from working hand in hand for a shelter, albeit for reptiles only)

First of all, it wasn't a childish outburst. You have no idea what I've been through with these cats -since you said yourself you can't relate since you aren't a cat and a dog person. I can actually form a bond with a cat or dog that I've never met and STILL be in pain from its death years later. I'm STILL in mourning to this very day for a cat that was tortured to death, set on fire in a cage 6 years ago - or at least that's when I first accidentally came across the video of it. Never met this cat. I will be cooking or washing dishes and burn myself with either fire or water on accident and just break down in a tear filled panic attack because I will recall that cat's SCREAM of agony, a scream that lasted for 3 FUCKING MINUTES before it died. Depressed for days every time I recall it, so thank you very much for reminding me of how angry I am again, thank you, since you think I am so immature. And you have NO CLUE what goes on these shelters when you aren't there, especially when you are basing your assumptions what little information you actually know. I actually WORK with these people networking and hear their horror stories everyday because they are THERE with the cats when they are put to sleep, or in the next room with the commotion going on. They are OFTEN put to sleep by asshole workers who don't care about the cats; they are there because they were hired to be there, not because they actually want to be. They rip the animals out of their cages and will euthanize without even passing any form of comfort on the animal to try and reassure it everything will be ok. WHOLE FAMILIES of animals, mothers with their babies are euthanized in front of one another, these animals have to watch their babies die, or watch their mothers die and they can do nothing because they are behind bars. Don’t you dare make me link you a picture of a mother cat in mourning over the loss of her babies because I will if you still think this is immature.
Your experience is from working with reptiles in shelters, that’s it. You say that you sympathize, and yet you're mad at me, for MY POST ON MY OWN PAGE IN REGARDS TO HOW HORRIBLY TRAUMATIZED I AM ABOUT ALL THIS, and yet you have the nerve to tell me that I'm acting childish? Excuse me, why don't you go on a little page called Downey Animal Shelter on facebook, (quick networking place) head on over there and you can see for yourself the horror before you ever come over to my page and judge everything as immature when you have no flipping clue how serious this all is, or not, and continue to assume that I'm just a brat acting childish over a silly thing like mass culling HEALTHY cats who want to fucking live, wishing death on those assholes who have no respect for life.

You also have no freaking clue how hard it was to get these two cats out of the shelter to begin with. First of all I live in San Francisco and had to find someone on short notice in L.A which is 10 hours from here, someone I don't know, to drive an hour and a half in each direction, then stand an hour and a half in a fucking line of people who are turning their dogs and cats in to be killed JUST so that she could get into the shelter to rescue ONE of the cats. Other cat was in an entirely different shelter in the opposite direction. The other gal didn't have nearly as much trouble when she got the earless boy out. Not only that, the Calico's brother was LOSt in the shelter and escaped out into the desert, these two cats have been together for 9 years indoor, brother and sister, and the girl was going to be killed -yesterday. The other woman talked with a shelter worker and managed to buy her enough time so that she could make that long trip out to save her. The other one was only a day away from killing. They would have died, perfectly wonderful cats by some jerk head worker that would have euthanized them without any problem.

First of all, take a chill pill-- the death threats you keep posting? THATS what I see as childish. I think you need to get your head on straight. :/ AND, if you were as "traumatized" as you claim, then you'd know how awful a way burning to death is and not wish it on anyone. Your cat screamed for 3 minutes? Guess what, my grandmother was screaming for 20 minutes, trying to escape her house. :/ So, you can jump off a fucking bridge for all I care in regards to that.
If there is abuse going on in the shelter itself, then REPORT IT. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. And, yes, sometimes perfectly healthy animals ARE put down because the population of the animals is TOO MUCH. Either no one wants them or they're too "aggressive" to be homed as a pet. If you want to save all the cats, by all means, do it-- go get them all and you tend them. I just think you're taking this all too far with your ranting and raving over it. But, again, like I said, if there is abuse in the shelter (better get proof of the exact abuse), report it.

You really have no right to come over to my page in the first place and tell me how I can and can't express myself and then turn 360 and hope I die too because I’m sad the cat died in the fire. Yeah that makes a lot of sense, and I didn’t even actually say anything horrible to you to deserve that. Would you like it if I came over to your page and did that to you? You also comparing your grandmother’s death to the cat's death is childish in my eyes, as both were entirely different experiences and both suffered horribly in their own terrible way that NO ONE besides them will truly understand. All we have the right to do is mourn over them and hurt for them, that’s it. Please respect your grandmother a little more than telling a complete random stranger her story as a way to get your petty point across.
Oh and yes the reporting IS happening and there's PLENTY of evidence, photographic, video, etc that the ladies working there have taken. There are several people working to get the issue resolved but nothing is being done because the city doesn't give a shit NO ONE. We're doing all that we can. I never said anything about saving all the cats, I was saying that the people there who are putting the animals down are doing it inhumanely without any compassion towards the animals and this has to stop. The animals if they have to die, should be treated with respect and kindness.

As someone you enjoy watching and talking to at one point... Please just stop this now. What this artist is trying to do is a really good thing. Leave it like that and stop the talk about shelters that put down unwanted animals. I my self am tired of hearing about these kind of shelters. There are shelters all around that do not kill animals so there is no need to support the shelters that kill. The artist feels strongly about what is being fought over and so do I. Yes there are a lot of animals but there are non-kill shelters all around that will take them in.
