Watching the Sun rise...
I did this at a watercolor workshop of an artist I really admire for her conrtol of colors and knowledge of that subject. It's my archerontia atropos boy Konstantin Nachtfalter with his horse, standing on a hill and watching the sun rise. Will there ever be piece in this god-forsaken-land or is this truely hell-on-earth?
I drew the lineart in a hurry, so it has some flaws I am already aware of. The horse is too small, even if it stands nearer to the edge or the hill-top and the stirrups are not at the right place. Additionally the bridle looks odd and also the saddle, but I used no reference at all. I decided to leave Kostjas wings be, because they'd have covered too much of the image and might have ruined the composition. (although composition is also weak, here, but I tried my best)
I still love this piece for what I achieved with watercolor alone, for the lighting and all. I really need to practice more.
Media: watercolor and colored pencils for the outlines.
12 hours of work from sketch to finish.
