Throughout the existence of the CIN, there have been conflicts and wars it has fought within and outside of its borders. During the sixties, the CIN found itself in its Second Civil War. Starting in the mid-sixties, it was clear to the CIN government and armament boards of the Army that the older post-World War II Support Element was outdated and required an immediate modernization to the current and rapidly shifting times. With that, the CIN quickly made contracts with German companies and Western forces to start modernizing the Army. One of those Allies, the United States, was more than happy to supply the CIN with the needed contracts from Germany, as the US had an interest in stopping the CINs civil war in fear of the USSR taking advantage of the chaos. Regardless of foreign involvement, the CIN would get its shipments of German-made HK21 LMGs. Alongside getting mostly american made gear, mostly the American-made M69 Flak Vests, as the rest of the soldier equipment was made at home by CIN companies.
The primary changes from the post-World War II kit to the Modern, 60's-70's era kit were the transition from the American-made and supplied M1918 BAR & M1911 [1944 to 1961] to the at the time modern German-made Heckler & Koch HK21 & French-made Mac MLE 1950. The change to these new weapons was sort of sudden and rapid, causing training issues among the troops on how to properly operate and clean the brand new German weaponry. But with the new civil war erupting, they were able to quickly learn the ins and outs of both weapons. Known by their field, then officially adopted name, the 'Support' elements are designed to bring heavy weaponry to a squad. The LMGs they are seen with are specially picked for multiple reasons, mostly falling into three categories: - Rate of Fire/Weight/Ammo Capacity - The following below is a section of the official CINAF Support Element training manual.
"The primary focus of the Support element out in the field within a focused and trained squad is to provide the squadron with heavy weapon support and to focus on entrenched and heavyily defeneded enemy positions and provide suppressive fire upon those enemy positions to make it difficult to operate the defensive weaponary of that position, allowing the squadmates of the support element to flank or conduct a frontal assault upon the position. The secondary objective of the support element is to provide the squadron during long deployments away from bases or without resupply, ammunition from the issued M88 SQUAD AMMUNITION KIT. The M88 SQUAD AMMUNITION KIT, hypothetical, can provide a squadron with at least a few days extra of ammunition while out on the field, it is-" Art was made by @/DerkatFox on Twitter!
