The ringing of a golden bell wards off evil spirits, while a Harefut ribbon—symbolizing the purity of the soul—draws the benevolent ones near. Made from luminous moss that grows only in the Stone Forest of Fenarite, the ribbon possesses a remarkable power: after absorbing star or moonlight, it ignites with a mystical flame at the first rays of the sun. This fire is harmless (some Blackpaws, in joyful excitement, even flick it onto the tip of their tails during the dance), and it signifies that the spirits of the clan have touched a new soul, and the initiation is complete. From that moment on, celebrations honoring the hero of the day will continue deep into the night.
