The point of a mortgage isn't necessarily to pay it off, it's to leverage your money so you can buy something now without having to save years or decades to be able to afford it, and I don't see how this screws over the bank since they'll still be collecting interest and can still sell this mortgage on the secondary market which is where they make their real money anyway.
